Any Substitute Gold Coin May Work For A Little While
If the number of items found in one trip to the local coin shop were equal to the number of items required for your collection, then you would probably get bored pretty quick. The most fun aspect of collecting coins is the part where you find something that you really did not expect to find. This element of surprise is not exactly unique to the hobby itself, but it most certainly adds to the fun of it. When people are looking for just the right coin, like I was last week, then they can possibly devolve a sort of tunnel vision. I had been seeking a 20 dollar gold coin to add to my collection and while I did not have any luck locating one that day, I did happen upon a really wonderful addition to the collection anyway. I had not thought about it before, but the coin I did find was the perfect substitute for one of the original 20 dollar gold coins from the early part of last century. Sure it is not original, but it goes very nicely in the collection none the less. When I do find an original I will replace what I have now. Yet until then, this will work adequately.
