Setting Up and Decorating Your Baby’s Crib

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that your baby sleep in a full-sized crib but nearby, optimally in your own room for at least the first six months.

After you've chosen the crib and crib mattress pad and other nursery furniture as a foundation, a local place to start in decorating your baby's room is with the crib bedding and crib skirt. Then choose paint or wallpaper and other accessories, such as the fabric for your rocking chair, based on those colors and patterns. It's often much easier to start with the crib linens and then add paint or wallpaper. To guard against suffocation, it's recommended to keep your baby's crib basically bare - just a tight fitted sheet, and maybe a crib skirt/dust ruffle for a touch of style. Instead of blankets or quilts, it's recommended to dress your baby crib in a one-piece bunting. Always remember that too many accessories could be potentially a safety hazard so try to keep it to a minimum.
